Things To Note While Arguing Balls and Strikes with the “umpires”:
- With 3 flakes for this game, we ended up have 15 people. Not ideal, but we made it work because it BASEBALL
- This game saw the dynasty of Cruzer end, and the era of the Terrorists Begin. It also marked the first time that there really were 2 Joe Materrorists on a team. While the smurf’s were the smallest team in history with a cast including shorter people like Sergio, Patrick, and Thomas. This all came into play as pitchers couldn’t throw a strike to their mini strike zone.
- Speaking of the strike zone, as if the conversations prior to the game about the strike zones and umpires never happened, Christos consistently berated the umpires calls, which ultimately ended up making 2 people not want to umpire for the remainder of the game. It was uncomfortable for many, enjoyable for some, and to soon for most.
- In the bottom half of the first, defensive player, Patrick (who was a smurf) made a diving catch in left field to rob his teammate, Josh of a basehit.
- We saw the return of a homerun, as a new player, Matt R, who is a lefty, hit an opposite field shot over the left fielders head. Matt R missed the cycle by a double.
- Cruzer had listened to the rest of the league, as he did not pitch this week. Instead Sergio started and we saw the debut of Josh. We also go to witness Slider return to the mound to continuously “fool” the people behind the plate. This is not necessarily the batter that was getting fooled, as the catcher Mike was fooled as well by pitches being thrown before he was even set up to catch the ball. Slider did however fool the hot hitting Mark, as Mark struck out against the bp style of Slider. This was Mark’s only out of the day.
- As Josh made his pitching debut, he wanted to send a message to the league as his second throw was throw in the general direction of Roger’s head. This is turn caused Roger to put on the batting helmet.
- The Smurf’s actually outhit the terrorists 22 to 17, but the difference were the walks. The terrorists had 16 walks (15 bb, 1 HPB). 1 more walk and they would have had the same amount as hits as free passes.
- Christos was the only player not to have a hit, but only went 0-2 with 5 walks and a sac fly.
- Brian was the only player not to score a run.
- Mark had 8 rbi which must be close to a record.
- The 1-3 hitters for the Terrorists had 16 runs scored (as many runs scored as the Smurf’s had) and 12 bb.
- The Smurf’s 1-3 hitters had 13rbi.
