Game Notes for End of Summer Classic XV (please feel free to add your own)

- On September 26th 2015, in the 15th End of Summer Classic, the Ghetto All-Stars defeated the Townsville Mojojojojoes 19-18 in a one sided/then other sided/then back and forth battle.

- Game time was just under 4 hours. The field was changed to the "other Cunningham field" when the St Francis Prep football team took over "the usual Cunningham field" with something that wasnt really important.

-The 14-run deficit was tied with 8/10/02 for the greatest comeback on record, though in that game the comeback team won. ESC XV  was also only the second game on record with multiple 10-run innings. The first was 6/4/11.

-This was GAS' first ESC victory at Cunningham. They were/are 0-3 at Cunningham Field #18 but were able to break through on Field #19.

- Umpires were Jacob Molina behind the plate and Jason Flynn in the field.

- ESC debuts were made by Ruben Jr and Fernando for Townsville, and Ruben Sr for GAS

- ESC debut was not made by Thomas Meade for GAS.

- First time winners of the ESC include Andres (3rd try), Fausto (2nd try), Joel (2nd try), and Ruben Sr (1st try)

- Kevin and Christos become the only two players to have won 9 ESCs.

- This was the second walk off win in an ESC. The first occured 10 years ago in ESC 5 when Tom Huie(?!) hit a walk off single in the 10th inning off of Christos Plakas, driving in Will Lane in the bottom of the 10th.

- No, that can't be right.

- Yes, a closer look shows that Tom Huie, all 95 pounds of him, still has the only walk off hit in ESC history.

- The week leading up to the big game was surpisingly quiet, with minimal videos and no smack talk between the two teams. Roger and Wilson did play their traditional game of Dick Chicken (see
urbandictionary.com) on Friday night which Roger won (15-0!).

- This was the highest combined score (37 runs) in an ESC since ESC 1 (39 total runs), which has
no stats and thus didn't really happen.

- The first 6 innings were dominated by GAS, who carried a 17-3 lead into the 7th inning behind a 10 run third inning and strong pitching and defense.

- Townsville roared back with the eye of the tiger, tying the game with 14 runs in the next 2 innings, highlighted by an 11 run 8th inning.

- After Sergio walked in the top of the 8th to drive in the tying run, Ruben Sr struck out his son Ruben Jr to preserve the tie.

- In the bottom of the 8th with 2 outs and no one on, Johan singled and then Ruben Sr hit a long double to drive him in, giving GAS a 1-run lead going into the 9th.

- Not to be outdone, Kaplan led off the top of the 9th with a game tying home run, the first HR of his career.

- The inning continued with a strike out, single, line out, and an error, setting the stage for reigning MVP Davy Andrews to bat with 2 outs and runners on first and second.

- As per usual, Davy hit the first pitch he saw for a single, but Kevin was able to get to it quickly and throw home, and Joel was able to hold on to the ball and tag out Fernando to keep the game tied.

- Davy is going to spend the offseason learning to not hit the ball so hard directly at people

- The bottom of the 9th was slightly anti-climactic compared to the previous innings, as GAS used two hit by pitches and two walks to bring home the game winning run.

- Townsville turned to Davy with runners on first and second and no outs to try to preserve the lead. After a walk to Wilson, he was able to strike out Andres, but couldnt do the same against Kevin.

- And thus Wilson's heart (and penis) grew three sizes that day.

- And now for some stats which is all we really care about:

- Ruben Sr tied an ESC record with 5 hits. Jose Lopez (Townsville) also had 5 hits in ESC 3. Players with 4 hits in an ESC are Flynn (ESC 2--GAS), Kevin (ESC 4--Townsville), Nannan (ESC 8-GAS), Jackson (ESC 8--Townsville), Reese (ESC 9--Townsville), Boneta (ESC 13--GAS), and Davy (ESC 15--Townsville)

- Every player in the game had a hit. Every player except Andres scored a run. Every player except Ruben Jr and Fernando had an RBI.

- Seven (7) players on each team had multiple hits. 4 players on each team had multiple RBIs. Five (5) players on Townsville and 8 players on GAS scored multiple runs.

- Did Wilson really hit 2 triples or is there a mistake in the boxscore? (Yes, he did)

- Christos has started the last 4 ESCs, throwing 30 innings, giving up 27 hits, 17 runs, 5 earned runs, and 0 extra base hits. He's good.
