In 2015, Stuyvesant original Brian Mangan started a Twitter debate as to what it means to bat around. The tweet went viral and ended up getting pickup up by the Wall Street Journal. For this piece of trivia, it means the leadoff hitter getting a second plate appearance in an inning.
We have play by play data for 271 games, which consist of 4591 half-innings. Of these, teams have batted around 296 times.
Notable games include:
- July 1, 2017: the teams combined for three consecutive half-innings of batting around for the first time. It also included one team batting around in three consecutive innings for only the third time.
- May 4, 2013: the Peck League team batted around in a record four consecutive innings against the Queens Mets.
- June 9, 2012: the teams combined for a record six half-innings of batting around in a game.
- April 7, 2012: a team actually batted around twice in the same inning, albeit with eight batters.
